Keymode (on the App Store as “Keymode: Vim-Style Editor”) is a text editor for iPhone, made by Robert Frost-Bridges, an individual developer in the United Kingdom. This page says what happens to your information when you use it.
Keymode collects no data. It has no account, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. Keymode itself never sends your text, your file names or anything about you to the developer or to anyone else.
Your files stay where you keep them. Files in Keymode’s own folder are on your iPhone (in the Files app, under On My iPhone, Keymode). A file you open from elsewhere, such as iCloud Drive or another app’s folder, is edited where it lives and is not copied. If that place is synced, for example by iCloud, the syncing is done by that service, not by Keymode.
Unsaved text is kept on your iPhone as a draft, so that it is not lost if Keymode is closed. Your settings are also kept on your iPhone. Deleting Keymode deletes these, and the files in Keymode’s own folder.
Keymode reads the iPhone clipboard only when you ask it to paste.
The free trial and the unlock are in-app purchases made through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles the payment and your Apple Account. Keymode is told only whether the trial or the unlock belongs to your Apple Account, and the developer never sees your payment details. Apple’s own privacy policy covers what Apple does: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.
If you have chosen, in your iPhone’s settings, to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give the developer crash reports and anonymous usage figures for Keymode. This is Apple’s choice to offer and yours to make; Keymode adds nothing to it. You can change it in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
People testing Keymode through Apple’s TestFlight may send feedback through TestFlight. Apple then passes the feedback, with the tester’s email address, to the developer.
If you email keymode@posteo.uk, your address and message are used only to answer you and to fix what you report. They are not shared or used for anything else, and are deleted when they are no longer needed for that. The mail is held by Posteo, an email provider in Germany.
Keymode collects nothing from anyone, children included.
You can ask what information the developer holds about you (normally none, or only your emails), and ask for it to be corrected or deleted, by writing to keymode@posteo.uk. In the United Kingdom you may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: https://ico.org.uk/.
If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page with a new date. Keymode will not start collecting data without saying so here first.
